Back in July 2019, my honey and I took a vacation to Mexico. Isla Mujeres is our favorite place to visit and I knew I wanted to take my sketchbook and watercolors on this trip to try and capture the beauty of the island. I did some island paintings of the blue waters and white sandy beaches, but my real inspiration came when we met a couple back on the mainland at the Excellence Resort in Playa Mujeres.
Lauren is a true dog lover and she noticed my small doggie designed zip pouch sitting on the bar. We started chatting and she shared pics of her fur babies with me. They were adorable and I asked if I could use her images to try and sketch her basset, Brewtus. And that’s what I did. I sketched and watercolored Brewtus on the plane ride home. Those paintings then inspired me to sketch and watercolor more dogs.
I continued to work on dog sketches and watercolors over the last coulple of weeks in July.
A couple of weeks ago, my honey asked me to create a painting for his new office space and this weekend I finally had to chance to get started. I’m calling her Baby Girl and she has inspired me to create two more dogs at this size 30” x 48”. I think I want to do several 20” x 20” paintings too creating The New Dog Collection.
